Bilal Ahmed Khan is an advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan and was called to the bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2019. He commenced his legal career as an Associate in the dispute resolution team at RMA & Co’s Karachi office in 2019. Over the span of more than six years, Bilal has risen to the rank of Associate Partner and has become an integral part of the firm, working with partners across the firm’s Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad offices.

Known for his exceptional legal representation and consistent delivery of outstanding results, Bilal has earned a reputation as a trusted advocate. Over the years, he has worked on a wide range of litigation matters, representing clients in the High Courts and District Courts, and assisting the firm’s partners before the Supreme Court of Pakistan. His practice encompasses contentious matters across diverse sectors including banking and finance, oil and gas, energy, telecommunications, insurance, taxation, constitutional, commercial, company, civil and criminal.

Bilal’s notable achievements include his representation of House Building Finance Company Limited, the largest housing finance institution in Pakistan, in suits for the recovery of finance facilities against defaulting customers. Bilal successfully led a dedicated team, securing court decrees within an impressively short timeframe. This success led to the firm’s engagement in twelve additional similar proceedings, solidifying Bilal’s reputation for delivering swift and favorable outcomes. He also represents leading banks of Pakistan before the High Court of Karachi in suits for recovery of secured finance.

Bilal represented Pakistan Petroleum Limited, the country’s foremost oil and gas exploration company, in filing claims for insurance and damages exceeding Rupees 500 million before the Insurance Tribunal at Karachi. Additionally, he represented Pakistan Petroleum Limited in multiple proceedings arising out of tender and procurement disputes.

Bilal has extensive experience in civil litigation. He has been engaged in multiple suits for injunction and obtained restraining orders in diverse and complex civil disputes, including cases involving non-compliant demands to encash bank guarantees, award of tenders in violation of prescribed rules and procedures, construction of buildings in contravention of applicable building codes and regulations, publication of defamatory material, inquiry proceedings initiated without lawful cause and constituting no more than a fishing and roving expedition, and unwarranted interference in the performance of contractual obligations. Bilal has a track record of securing urgent and effective remedies for clients across a broad spectrum of cases.

Bilal’s prowess extends to arbitration proceedings as well. Notably, he filed proceedings seeking enforcement of an arbitration award issued in Singapore before the Sindh High Court at Karachi under the United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, 1958. Bilal also represented an EPC Services Company in an arbitration dispute stemming from contractual complexities surrounding contingent payment clauses.

Beyond pure litigation, Bilal’s transactional experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements has provided him with valuable insights into the commercial realities that drive disputes. He advised Harbin Electric International Company Ltd on a comprehensive $50 million coal supply agreement for a 2×660 MW coal-fired power plant project, demonstrating his ability to navigate complex transactions.

In addition to representing the firm’s clients with distinction, Bilal has introduced multiple new clients to RMA & Co, including Be Energy Limited, Ghandhara Employees Cooperative Housing Society, MAK Enterprises, and Mehran Hotel, which has contributed significantly to revenue generation for the firm.
